Dr Rafeeqah Peters is a Specialist Obstetrician and Gynaecologist based at Panorama Mediclinic. She has a strong academic foundation and a broad clinical scope, with particular interests in high- and low-risk obstetrics, contraception and general gynaecology, including pelvic floor disorders.

Her approach to women’s health is grounded in the belief that caring for a woman’s wellbeing has a meaningful and lasting impact on her family and the wider community.

Qualifications

Background & Training

She completed her MBChB at Stellenbosch University in 2010, followed by the Diploma in Emergency Care (2013) and the Diploma in Obstetrics (2016) through the Colleges of Medicine of South Africa. She qualified as a specialist after successfully completing the FCOG (SA) examination (2024) and was awarded a Certificate of Merit upon admission to the College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists in 2025. In 2025, she also obtained her Master of Medicine (MMed) in Obstetrics and Gynaecology.

Her research on “Surgical outcomes following obstetric anal sphincter injuries in a resource-limited setting” was published in the African Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology and presented at the FIGO 2025 World Congress. She holds GESEA certification and has completed additional training in minimally invasive surgery and pelvic floor ultrasound.

In 2025, she was also involved in the organisation and facilitation of livestream surgeries for the PASE 2025 Congress, contributing to surgical education on an international platform.

Dr Peters devoted 16 years to public service, working across multiple levels of care. She spent seven years as a Medical Officer at Karl Bremer Hospital, contributing to clinical governance, outreach programmes and training initiatives. She later completed her specialist training at Tygerberg Hospital, a tertiary academic centre, where she gained comprehensive experience in complex gynaecology and high-risk obstetrics within a multidisciplinary setting.

After completing her registrar training she went on to serve as a sessional consultant, where she remained actively involved in student, intern and registrar teaching as well as all aspects of clinical obstetrics and gynaecology.

Beyond the Scope

Beyond her professional life, Dr Peters first and foremost a proud mother to two beautiful children, who are a constant source of perspective and joy. Motherhood has deepened her empathy and further enriched her understanding of the women and families she cares for.

When she’s not at the hospital or consulting rooms, she can usually be found with her nose in a literary novel or a gripping suspense story, experimenting with a new baking recipe, or outdoors on a hike.

She treasures time spent with her extended family and shares a close-knit bond with her brother and sisters, valuing the strong sense of connection and support that family brings.

Committed to evidence-based, patient-centred care, Dr Peters partners with women in shared decision-making and, where appropriate, adopts a multidisciplinary approach to provide holistic and comprehensive care throughout every stage of life.
